Kath Landers from NBN News recently visited Myuna to learn more about the mine’s operations and life underground.
Myuna is an underground coal mine located in Wangi Wangi, Lake Macquarie in the Newcastle Coalfields. Coal is cut by Continuous Miner - Bord and Pillar operations with around 1.58 million tonnes extracted in 2011.
Coal produced at Myuna is transported by a dedicated conveyor to the nearby Eraring Power Station where it is used for domestic power production. Centennial Group mines, including Myuna, supply coal to NSW electricity generators, helping to generate around 40% of the State’s coal-fired power needs.
