CLEAN UP OF THE WOLLANGAMBE CONTINUES
Following the environmental incident at Clarence Colliery on 2 July 2015, the clean up of the Wollangambe River (Wollangambe) continues.
A number of clean-up methods, based on scientific advice, continue to be employed to remove any coal fines from the Wollangambe with the objective of causing no further damage to the environment.
Over four (4) kilometres of the riverbed has now benefitted from the clean-up activities and approximately 163 tonnes of material has been removed. As the river clean-up is occurring in a dynamic environment, there is the need for more work on some of the cleaned sections of the Wollangambe which will benefit from a second run once the bulk of the material has been removed. Regular reports continue to be provided to the EPA.
The land based clean-up was completed in September and the area has been rehabilitated.
Centennial continues to work co-operatively with all relevant State agencies.
