New Longwall for Springvale

Using over 5,000 tonnes of steel, Springvale’s new Longwall Mining System stretches over 251 metres long and has taken over 18 months to manufacture.

The new Longwall Mining System will replace Springvale’s ageing mining equipment and provide a more technologically advanced longwall, suited to Springvale’s conditions and accordingly easier to operate and more productive.

“This new system really is ‘state of the art’ in terms of safety and production and will be of real benefit to Springvale’s future,” said Centennial’s Craig Roberts.

To ensure the new system is implemented seamlessly, the Springvale team have undergone a ‘mini build commissioning’ stage, which allows mining personnel to test the new system and provide feedback on the surface before the equipment is transported underground.

“So far we have received some great feedback from our underground operating team who are excited about the new system’s on-board shearer navigation feature. The new navigation system will provide greater control of the shearer’s actions when it is cutting coal from the longwall’s face, which will help improve Springvale’s productive efficiency,” concluded Craig.
